This website has loads of great advice for parents and expectant parents https://www2.hse.ie/my-child/
Appointments can be made for childhood vaccinations with the nurse.
Our nursing staff provide this service and an appointment is necessary at least 4-6 weeks before travel to discuss what vaccinations will be needed so the nurse can order them. We do not keep travel vaccinations in stock.
Routine boosters can be given for tetanus, however, 5 doses of this vaccine will cover you for life.
Flu vaccinations are available from the end of September, an appointment is required for this.
All doctors provide antenatal and postnatal care which is normally shared with Cork University Maternity Hospital. Each doctor sees his/her own antenatal patients by appointment.
The doctors provide a full range of contraceptive services, including the fitting of intra-uterine devices (coils). Our practice nurses are able to offer interim oral contraceptive and HRT checks, providing you are not experiencing any problems with your medication.
Appointments can also be arranged with the nurse for the administration of long acting contraceptive injections, once a doctor has prescribed the medication.
Cervical smears can also be carried out by the nurse as well as advice on breast awareness. Women aged 25 and over are advised to register with www.cervicalcheck.ie for free smear testing. Women aged between 50 and 65 will also receive an appointment for mammography screening every 3 years, which is organised by the Breast Screening Service.
The doctors are able to offer minor surgery such as removal of small cysts, some skin lesions and joint injections. These services are performed in the surgery under local anaesthesia.
Preventative intervention is a major aspect of the care we provide within the practice. We encourage all of our patients to have regular blood pressure and weight checks.
Smoking is a major cause of ill health and is not permitted anywhere on the surgery premises. We would actively encourage our patients to stop smoking and if you are a smoker who is willing to quit then we can offer advice on stopping smoking and discuss the prescription of nicotine replacement therapy or other medication to increase your chances of successfully quitting.
We are usually able to discuss the results of blood tests, xrays and other test result over the telephone, and encourage you to phone the surgery to discuss the results of tests with your doctor or nurse. If they are unable to speak to you when you phone, they will contact you when they are free, usually at the end of the surgery. You can also email us on firstname.lastname@example.org to request a call back about your results.
We are now able to send you a text message with your results. You will need to consent to this the next time you are in the surgery.
Note that the practice has a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection and we will only release test results to the person to whom they relate unless that person has given prior permission for the release of this data or they are not capable of understanding the results.
